From DD:
"Congratulations - you get a horn section this week! Write me a 'horn song.' Whatever that means to you. Stax, Motown, John Zorn skronkfest, Henry Purcell trumpet suite; whatever. And the good news? I don't even care if you arrange or record the horns or fake horns. But if you don't, please justify to me, in your notes, why your song is a 'horn song.'"
Started off hoping for a Hall & Oates-type thing ("Bigger Than the Both of Us"). This is not it. The guitar fills, leads, etc. are the horn parts, of course.
lyrics
v1:
Keep in mind that the things you find
Might not necessarily be true
Know, of course, what's mine is yours
And what's me just might be you
You're under the gun, but you follow the sun
From the daytime to the night
You show your cards, this is gonna be hard
But it sure is worth the fight
ch:
We were built for something bigger
Bigger than this world
We were built for something bigger
Just you & me, girl
We were built for something bigger
Bigger than this world
We were built for something bigger
v2:
Play the game, don't act the same
They're watching every move
Follow me down to the edge of town
You've got nothing left to prove
You've got your pride, but the things you hide
Will be the things you need
You try to talk, but the ones that walk
Are the ones you won't believe
ch:
We were built for something bigger
Bigger than this world
We were built for something bigger
Just you & me, girl
We were built for something bigger
Bigger than this world
We were built for something bigger
- sax solo -
- horn fantasy -
v3:
We sit in the dark 'til we see a spark
Bring the nighttime to the day
We try to climb, but we only rewind
Our lives, it's the only way
In the end we'll see if we disagree
That it all starts to make sense
You gotta pick a side, can't ride the divide
Gotta get up off that fence
ch:
We were built for something bigger
Bigger than this world
We were built for something bigger
Just you & me, girl
We were built for something bigger
Bigger than this world
We were built for something bigger
