v1: No one needs another song about the river A bunch of words about the blue sky And drinking wine at 3am ----- We're all tired of all the songs that mention sunshine Playing frisbee on the beach I know I'm right, but then again... ch: We can always be reminded of the things that make life work So easy to be grateful, sometimes we won't So many hidden treasures No such thing as guilty pleasures You either like it or you don't v2: Playing songs on the stage or on the back porch Even when we move it online A good investment of your time ----- There's no shame in feeling joy for just the small things Like the way the water moves I could be wrong, but I don't mind ch: We can always be reminded of the things that make life work So easy to be grateful, sometimes we won't So many hidden treasures No such thing as guilty pleasures You either like it or you don't -- solo stuff -- ch: We can always be reminded of the things that make life work So easy to be grateful, sometimes we won't So many hidden treasures No such thing as guilty pleasures You either like it or you don't v1.5: No one needs another song about the river A bunch of words about the blue sky And drinking wine at 3am

v1: When all you've got is some water & some wood If you do it right, it ought to be enough to do some good pre: Holding on 'til it's gone It won't be long ch: I always had a hard time letting go Did we leave it all behind, we may never know I never had it in my mind to go solo So in the meantime, I'm waiting on the band to show v2: Before we realize, the music starts to fade And all the stars align to rearrange the plans we might have made pre: Holding on 'til it's gone It won't be long ch: I always had a hard time letting go Did we leave it all behind, we may never know I never had it in my mind to go solo So in the meantime, I'm waiting on the band to show - some sort of solo - ch: I always had a hard time letting go Did we leave it all behind, we may never know I never had it in my mind to go solo So in the meantime, I'm waiting on the band to show

v1: They say you don't need music on the beach, but I can't see how it hurts I wanted to try the surfboard one more time, but someone got there first ----- And all the days, then nights, then mornings become a beautiful blur We got nothing to prove, but nothing to lose Yeah, that's how this thing works ch: It's not the Litchfield sand No, that ain't the draw It's just like any other beach down here I reckon that's all It's not the Black River tide But that's the background, of course For the 2am wine club on Billy's back porch ----- And if you're wondering what keeps bringing us back again It's the promise of rock & roll and low country friends v2: If I'm honest, I love loading up the van and pointing it straight south 200 miles of thin white dashes through every small Carolina town ----- And we know for a fact the Emergency Room is dependable & true We might fall down, but we'll try again That ain't nothing new ch: It's not the Litchfield sand No, that ain't the draw It's just like any other beach down here I reckon that's all It's not the Black River tide But that's the background, of course For the 2am wine club on Billy's back porch ----- And if you're wondering what keeps bringing us back again It's the promise of rock & roll and low country friends - solo - And all the days, then nights, then mornings become a beautiful blur We got nothing to prove, but nothing to lose Yeah, that's how this thing works ch: It's not the Litchfield sand No, that ain't the draw It's just like any other beach down here I reckon that's all It's not the Black River tide But that's the background, of course For the 3am wine club on Billy's back porch ----- And if you're wondering what keeps bringing us back again You are just who you are, no need to pretend It's the promise of rock & roll and low country friends

v1: Never should have started Never should have rolled up my sleeves Now I’m on the floor, I don’t know what to believe It took me 4 long hours ‘til I was back on my feet ch: Never thought I’d fall to pieces Never thought that I would fall at all Now I’m staring face to face with my demons They said, “you’ve screwed up good this time Now your back’s up against, your back’s up against the wall” v2: Livin’ should be easy, you only gotta stay alive We do our best to end it, it happens all the time I’m going to finish this verse, it doesn’t even have to rhyme ch: Never thought I’d fall to pieces Never thought that I would fall at all Now I’m staring face to face with my demons They said, “you’ve screwed up good this time Now your back’s up against, your back’s up against the wall” - harmonica - br: Ain't it funny when our bodies hit the ground Nobody's laughing, and you're the only one who ever heard the sound ch: Never thought I’d fall to pieces Never thought that I would fall at all Now I’m staring face to face with my demons They said, “you’ve screwed up good this time Now your back’s up against, your back’s up against the wall” ch: Never thought I’d fall to pieces Never thought that I would fall at all Now I’m staring face to face with my Jesus He said, “you’ve screwed up good this time If it happens again, just give me a call”

about

This is a collection of songs written at (or about) the Black River in Georgetown, SC. A wonderfully relaxing place that has provided a refuge from the noise of the "real world," as well as several (very) late nights of camaraderie, music and wine. These songs have been floating around for many years and I'm thrilled to have properly recorded them and collected them in one place. I hope you enjoy listening to these as much as I enjoyed playing and singing them.

This one's for the Holdouts.
