It's pretty tough to "doctor" Doug's songs, as they are usually presented fully formed. We've co-written many songs in past, but I think this is the first time I've mangled one of his already finished tunes. I would hardly call it doctoring. I've essentially turned War & Peace into Clifford, the Bid Red Dog. Good songs, though, I think (both mine & his). To hear point A, listen to Doug's song "Sirens" from mm3am week 4.
lyrics
She said, "I'm half on land, but all at sea
There's not much left of me
So just go on and leave me be
Stop treating me like a child"
No more tears, a trace of salt
When she says it's all my fault
I just do as I've been taught
And lay low for a while
She goes dancing down to the waterline
Rest assured I'm feeling better all the time
I was a fighter, but a gentle guy
She never looked me in the eye
Just the last in a long, sad line
To drown himself in drink
No one gets out completely clean
Even the best ships lose their steam
If I tell you what I mean
Will you tell me what to think?
She goes dancing down to the waterline
Rest assured I'm feeling better all the time
And if I think too much, I'll probably run and hide
There's no need to drown alone
But you close your eyes and you sink like a stone
It's getting late, won't you come home to me?
She disappeared for a week or two
I found myself without a clue
I cared too much for someone who
Treated me like a child
We go dancing down to the waterline
Rest assured I'm feeling better all the time
We go dancing down to the waterline
Rest assured I feel like I'm running out of time
