about

The assignment is from Corky:
"Country music ain't what it used to be. Write a good ol' country song like those from the days of Hank Williams, George Jones, & Merle Haggard. You could even sprinkle the likes of Randy Travis & Dwight Yoakum and the like if you want to. Whatever it is, make sure it says something to the heart which is what you would hold your guitar close to as you croon this one under the neon lights."

The title lyric has been rolling around in my head for a while. Not sure this is the best use for it (or even what it means), but what's done is done. In hindsight, this might have worked well as an Avett-style stomper.

lyrics

Now I ain't no great man, but I'm livin' my life
And if someone needs help, no need to ask twice
If I stumble & falter, I might cry out
I might reach a hand, I might be too proud

Sometimes I feel useless, don't know what to say
We all go through the dark at the end of the day
Sometimes I feel stronger when I kneel down to pray
But sometimes the angels just get in the way
Sometimes the angels just get in the way

Now I ain't no rich man, but I can't decide
They say gold is valuable, but I say they lied
I got 4 strong walls, a roof & a floor
Without time with your family, tell me what's it all for

Sometimes I feel useless, don't know what to say
We all go through the dark at the end of the day
Sometimes I feel stronger when I kneel down to pray
But sometimes the angels just get in the way
Sometimes the angels just get in the way

I know angels keep watching as I sleep through the night
Even when I do wrong, though I try to do right
When I turn my back, they refuse to take flight

Now I ain't no young man, but I know what I've learned
You can't come back on the bridges you burn
You can't take to the air, you can't grown wings
But you can sure as hell smile when the angels sing

Sometimes I feel useless, don't know what to say
We all go through the dark at the end of the day
Sometimes I feel stronger when I kneel down to pray
But sometimes the angels just get in the way
Sometimes the angels just get in the way
Sometimes the angels just get in the way
Sometimes the angels just get in the way
