This week’s assignment comes from P-Fug, and it’s an interesting one:
"It seems everyone these days is turning out their version of a " cover tune" , and while i am all about writing original music I feel we could maybe do a weekly song challenge week where we re-imagine a cover song of our choice. Doesny have yo be a top 40 hit. It can be a tune that you have strong feelings for. The first tune you learned on guitar, your First dance song, the first song you heard Megadeath play live..I really don't care. It may also be interesting if you take a song you feel you really like ( or dont like) but always came up a bit short for you. The main thing here to emphasize is " REIMAGINE IT" . If I hear Mitchell Snow cover WAGON WHEEL and just do the Hootie version with " Mitchell Voice" , I will get in my car , drive up to Toronto, knock on his door and open palm slap him in the skull. Just sayin. Get creative dont just keep the same chords and slow down " Rebel Yell" to a sensitive song and call it a day. Change the Melody, change the structure, hell change the lyrics. Turn that damn Desposito song Punk!! Have fun w this, but since Doug has always emphasized the " songwriting aspect" of this little MM3AM club, throw your Songwriting skills at it and really re-imagine a song that you think you can make your own. LET THE LAWSUITS BEGIN!!”
So, I’ll relax the “no co-writes” rule for this round, I guess. But PLEASE - I want to see actual songwriting in this rewrite. As Patrick emphasized, don’t give me a new arrangement of an existing tune. I need to hear actual songwriting work!
Well, this is silly.
lyrics
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world & the seven seas
We're all looking for something
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world & the seven seas
We're all looking for something
Some want to use you
Some want to get used by you
Some want to abuse you
Some want to be abused
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world & the seven seas
We're all looking for something
Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, keep movin' on
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
