The assignment this week is from Mark:
"This week, write a song about one of your favorite places you like to visit, or about a memorable trip you have made......"
We had Airbnb guests from Australia last week and I was reminded of the 3 weeks that J-Lev & I spent in Adelaide in 1998.
No, there were not kangaroos lining the streets.
Yes, Rachel's mom called. Yes, she was just a friend.
I saw You Am I (look 'em up) do an acoustic set.
We walked every day from out hotel to the place we played.
We hung out with the local Australian rules football team.
We didn't drink Moscow Mules, but it rhymes with "rules."
Cooper's Ale was the awesome local beer.
We played 2 nights at the Casino. I did leave early the 2nd night to hang out with Kirk from INXS.
It was a swell trip.
lyrics
Nothin' but kangaroos as far as the eye can see
Hey, where's Jason? He was standing right beside me
Come down from a long flight at the bar in our hotel
Then we've got a story to sell
Rachel's mom called to say she didn't get in
She's with the band now, but you know she's just a friend
You Am I plays at the corner record shop
I hope this never stops
One mile either way from our home to the venue
Not a single sunless day and Cooper's on the menu
Only 10 feet from the bar to the bed
The Crown & Sceptre is where we'll lay our heads
We're playing football, but it's Australian rules
Had brunch with the players, a pitcher of Moscow Mules
Took a car for a test-drive on the wrong side of the street
Don't know where this will lead
One mile either way from our home to the venue
Not a single sunless day and Cooper's on the menu
Only 10 feet from the bar to the bed
The Crown & Sceptre is where we'll lay our heads
Tried to rock the Casino, they said we were the best
Had to duck out early to hang with INXS
We said our goodbyes, "We'll be back in a year"
And then we disappeared
